CTTMO mulls designated stops for provincial buses

THE CITY Transportation and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) and the security cluster will set up checkpoints in the soon-to-be-designated bus stops, potentially in only three areas where provincial buses can legally pick up or load passengers.

The city government still prohibits buses from loading passengers in any areas outside the Davao City Overland Transport Terminal (DCOTT) in Ecoland after a bombing incident of a bus unit in Koronadal, South Cotabato last month.

In an interview with the Davao City Disaster Radio Wednesday, CTTMO head Dionisio Abude said they are coordinating with the security cluster, DCOTT, and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to set up stops possibly in Toril, Calinan, and another area for northbound buses.

The first area is in Toril at Gmall because the area is wide. But for the Calinan, and going north, this is still subject for inspection because like the Task Force Davao, we will be setting tents and personnel will be deployed to inspect the buses and the passengers for safety),” Abude said.

Abude requested drivers to continue observing the policy of loading passengers only in DCOTT because this is for the safety and security of the passengers.

Wala gihapon dapat mo-pick up. Pareha anang sa Magsaysay Park, pareha sa Buhangin kana siya gi-suspend gyud nako na. Naa ta’y mga tao didto nga dili gyud nato pahunongon ang mga buses (Picking up passengers is still suspended. For example, in Magsaysay Park and Buhangin, picking up of passengers in those areas is suspended and we have deployed personnel to ensure that the buses will not stop in the area),” Abude added.

He said that they also intend to put signage advising people to go to DCOTT or the soon-to-be-identified bus stops.
