MEDINA, Misamis Oriental (PIA)–The Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-10 through the Provincial S&T office in Misamis Oriental has improved the production capacity of Ana Mia Foodie, a local food processing business specializing in the production of pastries and snacks such as ensaymada, mushroom burgers, pica-pica, among others, here.
Through DOST-10’s Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) program, Ana Mia Foodie availed this second quarter of 2022 assistance amounting to P738,880. The business is set to grow its sales by 32.5 percent, increase productivity by 4.6%, reduce 50% of the processing time and improve product quality, which could stimulate value adding to Misamis Oriental’s food processing industry.
The firm is to be upgraded by acquiring a planetary mixer, proofer, 3 deck oven, stainless cooling rack, stainless steel table, chiller, and dough divider. The construction of an FDA (Food and Drug Administration)-compliant food processing plant is also ongoing with the aid of DOST-10’s consultancy services.
DOST-10 is also assisting in improving its packaging and labeling together with laboratory analysis of the Nutrifacts of the ensaymada “Bulilit,” which will enable the firm to upscale its production volume by 40% to address the ongoing high demand for the firm’s products.
Ana Mia Foodie, headed by a woman entrepreneur, started its operation in 2017, by delivering pastries and snacks within their community. Through years of continuous operation, the firm could upgrade its processes from a food delivery service to establishing a restaurant, one of the few in its locality.
As they continued their product improvement, they explored the production of special ensaymada, which they brand as ensaymada “Bulilit” wherein it expanded to cafes along the roads of the neighboring towns such as Gingoog City, and Claveria and Medina in Misamis Oriental.
